How Attractive Is Service on the D.C. Appropriations Subcommittee
Of the United States House of Representatives?

A Comparative View of the desirability of Membership on Congressional Subcommittees on Appropriations

as measured by turnover in membership on the committees.

Conclusion.  Based upon the high turnover rate on the Appropriations subcommittee on the District of Columbia, the D.C. Appropriations Subcommittee serves primarily as a gateway to the powerful Appropriations committee.  However, serving and moving up in seniority on the subcommittee appears undesirable to Members, under this analysis.

Guide:   Our first session is the 104th and as the control year it is colored blue.  Names in black have served on the committee in the previous session of Congress.  Names in red are first time ever or have not served in the previous session of Congress on this subcommittee. The number at the bottom of each section of each column is the total number of ,members who are new to the subcommittee or who have not served in the immediately preceding Congress.
